I am inclined to think a person, at some deeper core level, has to have a loving passion for music to put the great care into crafting an instrument. Even though, (s)he may never posses the talent to play the instrument.
He uses the skills he does have along wth his passion for music, in this example. Music touches the hearts of everyone on some level. The resulting music is not the work of one, it is the combined works of the many along the way.

If you're a writter then that is exactly what you should do, not try to become what you are not, and incorporate "Your Skill" toward your passions in life, even if it is a passion you have no talent to perform yourself.
If you write a play, that is like your baby, and seeing it performed is magic. Even though you are not on stage performing it, or playing the music or coordinating the coreography. Your pleasure is not hampered in the least - you pleasure is in seeing your work performed, in this example.

At least you realize it if you are. I know far too many people that are horrible but think they are great anyways! many of the great writes of musicals and plays are writers because they couldn't act or dance but still had a passion for it, so hone those skills instead
