What guitar should I get?

Question:I have never played guitar before and I am thinking about buying a acoustic guitar to learn on. I like Jack Johnson and music like that. So I was wondering what would be a good quality guitar, that isn't to expensive.

squire by fender, epiphone by Gibson, Washburn.

those are all great cheaper brands

Any guitar is nice and it is a good idea to start on an acoustic.

Go to your local music store and pick a few up and see what feels good there are so many body types to see and feel. Ask the shopkeep to play for you so you can hear them. don't buy form a box store they don't care about you and your style go to a Mom and Pop shop that may be a bit more expensive howerver they will help you find a great fit for your budget!!

Even if you are a beginner it pays to to get quality. Keep in mind that you can eventually sell a high quality guitar, so the money that you spend is not gone forever like it is for most other purchases. If I had the money to spare for a guitar, there is a certain Thompson that I would get.

Can't go wrong with an entry level Martin. I play some Jack Johnson on my SWOMGT and the tone is absolutely incredible. I'm not sure exactly what guitar he plays, but you could research it and find a guitar that is similar to his. He has a 'dryer' tone, so you might want to look at guitars that have mahogany sides and/or tops or cherry back/sides. I'd stay away from guitars less than $500. If the guitar is sub-par, you won't have as much fun playing it, and you'll ultimately quit.

i think you should first buy a really cheap second hand electric guitar. you will find it much easier on your fingers if you are just starting out. if your still determined to buy an acoustic you cant go far wrong with tanglewood.

Buy the best quality, most expensive, brand new guitar you can afford. By brand new, I meanl don't spend your money on a vintage guitar that you're just paying for the fact that drool from Jimmy Hentricks dog once touched the neck. If you can afford $500 to $800 on a new guitar buy that. If you can only afford $100 to $200 then buy that.

Any guitar is fine. A guitar of better quality design is preferable, will last longer and will not limit the quality of sound you can achieve with the instrument. Good luck!
