Position:Home>Performing Arts> How many hours do you practise guitar a day?

Question:It not how much time you spend-it's how you spend the time. I teach a little guitar on the side, and I try to get my students into a consistent practice routine- start by turning off the radio, TV, and internet.Try to practice at the same time in the same place every session.
I have my students get the following: 1) A 1 hour mechanical kitchen timer.
2) A metronome.
3) A journal or notebook.
4) Some way to record your playing

Start by tuning up your guitar, then set the timer. Start with short, 15-20 minute practices. They can get longer as you get better. Use the metronome- it helps develop your sense of rhythm. Start each practice with a scale or two, and some chord changes to the metronome(always practice to the metronome!) slowly, say 60 bpm, then 80. If you have an assignment for the next lesson, try to practice it within 24 hours of when you received the assignment. Go over the assignment a few times, then spend the last few minutes of the session going over an old song or two to keep it fresh. Once the buzzer rings, finish the piece you're playing, write up your session in your journal. Write down what you played, how fast, how well you thought you did,and what you could do to improve just a little for your next practice. It sounds like a lot of work, but once you get started, you'll probably be amazed at how fast you progress. I'd also recommend finding a practice partner- someone at your ability level you can meet up with once a week to jam and go over assignments- that's why I recommend small group lessons- two, maybe three students at the most-after the lesson, or on the weekend, meet up for a jam session- I did something similar when I was taking lessons-Good Luck!

25!!!!!!!

When I was younger I could go for a good 8 hours and my record was 23 hours before I crashed back on the bed totally exhausted. These days I only pick it up once every few days.

At least 2, but off and on every 15 minutes or so helps me improve

though i have a guitar i only practice 20 minutes a day cause i barely have any time

An hour or two.

Not hours at a time, but pick it up here and there which prob. totals about 2hrs a day

about 25 hahahaha

I can easily practice for an hour or a couple of hours without realizing it. But I don't really pay attention to how many times I pick it up. I just do. Its not planned it just happens, like deciding to eat a snack.

1 at the least.

3.24895 hours a day

whenever i can, i guess

I strum a cat. Does that count?

When I first got my guitar, I used to lock myself in the bathroom since it was the only place I could get away from all the noise in my house. Then I would just start practicing songs, and hours would pass by... but to me, it would feel like only 15 minutes.

Now, almost 2 years later, I have gotten lazy. I probably don't practice for more than an hour now... There are weeks when I will practice for about 15 minutes a day, and weeks when I won't even touch my guitar.

Another reason fo rmy laziness would be my long nails. It makes it difficult for me to play, yet I don't want to cut them becuse I've been trying to let them grow... so yeah

2 hours .

I play guitar all day!

See the thing guitaring is addictive. You cant stop once you start. I keep going for hours and still feel as if i have played only 20 minutes or so. But I suggest anyone getting 2 hours a day would make a great guitar player in a while. Another thing is the concentration, if you are playing then just play, stop thinking about the world at that time.

you can basically practice as long as you want i personally practice 30min-2hrs .some days i dont even touch my guitar.it really depends on how long you want to practice

0. lol I don't play guitar, I play violin
