Position:Home>Performing Arts> How are you fitted for Pointe shoes?

Question:I am just wondering how exactly you are fitted for Pointe shoes. I know you are to get someone who really knows what they are doing. pretty soon my teacher will be fitting me for Pointe shoes and I would like to know what to expect. Especially because I have no idea what a Pointe shoe is supposed to feel like... any help? Please answer if you can : )

go to a dance distributor that has a high reputation in your area. they will take about 20-30 minutes to fit you and have you try on shoes. if you're afraid you have someone fitting you that has no clue what they're doing *ugh been there* take your teacher. pointe shoes should be snug but not uncomfortably tight. they should not have gaps in the sides and your heel shouldn't pop out. oh and make sure that you buy the right color ribbons for them. the ribbons should very closely match the color of your shoes (i've been sold too-light ribbons and got in trouble with my teacher)

good luck

If you go to someone who you know knows what their doing that's good. They will ask you how they feel in certain areas of your foot and have you stand on point, holding onto a bar, to see how they fit you. they will check to see how much room you have in the back when your on point. It might be a fast process, and they find a great shoe for you quickly, but sometimes it takes quites a while and going through a lot of shoes.
