Bb - F
going one whole tone backwards (you started with D. Then A is the 5th to D. Then you went to C which is a whole step down to D. And G is the 5th to C. Now you go back one step and it goes to Bb. Then F is the 5th to Bb). I think this would sound quite interesting.

Trixta, what's your problem, child? What knowledge have you got of music?

It's hard to say without hearing how the verses go, but I would say something simple but catchy like D for eight measures at least, depending on your chorus phrase, along with the G for a few measures for good emphasis.
The chorus should be the most memorable part of the song, so you need to keep it simple. Keep the same chords as the verses so you don't encounter any jarring key changes, unless that's what you are going for.

Bb F

E sus4 to E7

try D-Emin-G-Gmin,
I love that romantic major to minor sound ala NOFX or the Beatles

A lot of experts have already answered. I'm just going to suggest some reference material for the future. The Chord Wheel (the ultimate tool for all musicians), by Jim Fleser.
