Average range runs about 1 to 1.5 octaves...not that much. I myself have 4.5 octaves, but that's just me. I know that it's next to impossible to stretch your range any lower, so your best bet is to develop it into higher registers. You can accomplish this through vocalises such as scales, but arpeggioes are probably the best. My vocal teacher had me sing the tonic of a scale, slide all the way up the octave, and slide down the major arpeggio slowly, and it helped a lot.

You will need to do a lot of vocalises to strengthen your voice and hence gradually increase your range.

Almost like a ballet dancer doing practice warmups at the barre.

An average vocal range is usually 2 octaves. Some singers have much more than that.....Maureen McGovern, for instance has over 3 octaves. So do most opera singers.

whats normal? Pat Benatar roles about 7 but thats far and few between, you'll be lucky to get 3. even if classicaly trained! how far you planning on going?
