Question:our speaking ranges is rather low. This goes for women as well as men. We are comfortable talking there, and we don't even notice that it's low. Most of the music we sing, however, is pitched relatively high in comparison. A high soprano, for instance, will probably wind up singing an octave to an octave and a half above her normal speaking voice.
The only people we hear speaking up there are the folks who do cartoon voices for a living. If you heard someone speaking like that on the street, you'd either think s/he was weird or doing a cartoon. Or you'd just bumped into Robin Williams, bless him.
Sopranos and tenors will sing "much" higher than their speaking voices, mezzo-sopranos and baritone a little bit higher, and basses and altos pretty much at those pitches.
On a piano keyboard, you'll find most women's speaking range falls around the Bb below middle c. That's about 275 Hertz (HZ). For men, it can go as much as an octave lower
( some down to 125 HZ).

If you do that, then maybe you're singing in the wrong key.
