Here it is

BRISTOL -- American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said that "music is the universal language of mankind." Starting Monday that universal language will be alive and well for the whole city to hear.

All 15 public schools will perform in the Music In Our Schools concerts that run through Thursday.

All concerts will be held in the George R. Perry Auditorium at Bristol Eastern High School, are begin at 6:30 p.m. and run for one hour and 45 minutes. The events are free and open to the public.

Bristol has celebrated Music In Our Schools for the past 22 years, said Ruth Busse, who heads Board of Education’s citywide music department,

"When we started there used to be just one evening and now there are four evening performances with an additional evening in April just for jazz," she said. "It has become a standing-room-onlyevent. We just can’t fit all of the crowd [in the seats]."

The first of the four concerts will feature South Side and Jennings elementary schools’ chorus and band, Memorial Boulevard Middle School’s All-Star Chorus, Bristol Eastern High School’s Madrigal Singers and Bristol Central High School’s concert band.

Tuesday will feature Ivy Drive and Stafford elementry schools’ chorus and band, Memorial Boulevard concert choir, BEHS Madrigal Singers along with the Middle School Festival band.

Mountain View, Edgewood and O’Connell elementary schools’ chorus and band, the Express Singers from Northeast Middle School and both Eastern’s concert band and Strawberry Fields will make appearances Wednesday.

Bingham, Greene-Hills and Hubbell Elementary schools’ chorus and band along with the Chippens Hill Middle School Harmonizers and the BCHS Bell City group will all hit the stage on the fourth and final night of the concert festivities.

According to Busse, the success of this continued celebration of the arts is due at large to the willingness of parents to support their children’s musical interests and the community effort in taking the time and money to acknowledge the students hard work and appreciation for music in general.

She added that the program’s participation is proof of that the community support is paying dividends. More than 3,000 of Bristol students from grades 4 to 12 are currently participating in one or more performing ensembles and the program isgrowing, she said.

Whether one attends a concert this week to see a child perform or just for the love of music, Busse promised that no one will leave disappointed.

"It’s a wonderful experience to witness the joy and excitement each evening as young budding musicians take the stage and perform. ... It’s a joy to witness all the wonderful things that these talented students can do," said Busse. "It truly is a celebration of the musical arts."
