Position:Home>Performing Arts> Teaching myself violin?

Question:Is it a good idea? I took maybe five lessons back in the day, but i was young and quit. I can play simple songs rather easily, i can read music. Are there a lot of technical things i wouldnt be able to figure out on my own, Im having a hard time finding a teacher in the area..

If you have not played the violin in a while, you should definitely go see a teacher to reestablish your techniques. I have been teaching for many years. Violin is not like a bike. You need to use those musicals and keep them in shape. There is also only a certain point you can progress to on your own because there are so many technical aspects to the violin. Teachers also tell you what you and doing wrong. You could practice the wrong technique and then have it ingrained in your muscle memory, which is difficult to fix. I would highly recommend lessons. Find an advanced student in your area if you can't find a teacher. Go to local music stores and ask them who are the best local teachers or if they offer lessons.

If you know the basics of switching from 1st position and up, then go for it. Listen to and watch alot of violin solos to get the vibrato effect down right, but it might take years for that. Just do it for fun : )

Believe in yourself. I'm not sure if ur parents are suportive ones, but mine is and i know they always push you to try new things. its kind of hard when you start again, but you'll do fine.
If you want to see inspiration, check out www.celticwoman.com and watch a couple videos. their violinist is the BEST!!!

Good Luck!!

It will be very . challenging Try to find a teacher....youll advance much faster

definately find at teacher.
its easy to teach yourself in the beginning but later on there are going to be some very technical parts that you will need a teacher for!
try going to an orchestra performance and ask around about teachers after they finish playing.
someone will most likely know someone =o)
