Question:I play a Gibson Les Paul through a Blues Jr. and it's one of the best sounding setups I've ever heard but i want to expand my sound as a guitar player. The Blues Jr. can really only play a clean bluesy sound or a Blues Crunch. What type(s) of distortion pedal(s) should I look into to get different sounds with muddying up the sound? I own a Boss Blues Driver BD-2 but when I run it through my amp it just gets muddy and overly-distorted.
I want ot be able to get the tone of late 60's Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Nirvana, early Black Sabbath, Guns and Roses and AC/DC. What pedals would you suggest?

I know my question is a bit scattered but if you can give just one suggestion for any of the bands I listed that would be very helpful.

This question is scattered, but here is my opinion.

I own a Vox TonelabSE pedal board. It has a built in tube and does a great job at creating different tones and distortions. Here is a link where you can learn more about it and listen to samples. http://www.voxamps.co.uk/tonelab/tonelab...

If you're more into stomp boxes try a Boss DS-1 for Nirvana. That's pretty much all Kurt used for his distortion. The tone was shaped by the Mesa preamps he used.

For GnR or Sabbath, try an Ibanez Tube Screamer, or a Rat distortion. It won't be perfect sounding, but it's a decent start.

Hendrix used a Univibe rotary and Vox wah pedal. His distortion came from a tube amp, as did most of the other bands you mentioned. Pretty much any pedal that has a built in tube or claims to emulate tube distortion will get the tone you're looking for.

I got tired of worrying about millions of different pedals and got the Tonelab pedal board. It's pretty damn amazing sounding and isn't too expensive (300-400$)

Thats a broad palette you're asking for. If you're looking for a great sounding distortion pedal, try a TS-9 Vintage Ibanez tube screamer.

Try the new Boss HM-2 ibelieve. It is the Heavy Metal distortion.
On my Les Paul, Iuse the stanard orange Boss distortion through an Ash Down amp and the sound is like the 60's.
