Position:Home>Performing Arts> Learn to play guitar again?

Question:Back when I was in 6th grade (currently just graduated high school), I took guitar lessons for a while, I learned pretty fast but with much family drama I stopped playing, I haven't picked up a guitar again until recently, I would love to learn again. Lessons just seem kind of like a waste of money. I still have my accoustic, and I remember basic technique, I would love to learn again, what is the best book for me to get to learn? I want to learn on my own this time, just practice and practice. What book should I get? Any other pointers?

Thanks.

As far as books, Ernie Ball makes a beginning book that is pretty good if you are learning on your own. I teach out of the Hal Leonard series.

I host a free podcast that you can listen to online. You can find it at: http://myonlineguitar.com/wordpress/ Teaches you guitar from the beginning and it's free.

Also, if you click the link on that page that says: "Back to Main Site" you will be taken to the main site which has free online guitar lessons.

Finally, I answer questions in the forum at http://myonlineguitar.com/forum Feel free to post there if there's anything I can help you with.

Good luck to you,
Brian

Lessons are not a waste if you get a good teacher.

I would suggest looking up as many chords as you can on-line. Especially all the basic chords. Practice transitioning from chord to chord a lot. Then pick one of your favorite songs and learn it. When you master that song move on to another song. Until you start getting your motion and natural strum pattern down. When you feel like you've reached a point that you cant teach yourself anymore technique then take lessons. I'm telling you this is exactly the way I learned. I taught myself all the basics and got as good as I could get by myself then I looked to someone else for technique. Follow this process I feel like its the fastest way to learn and get good.
