Position:Home>Performing Arts> Unfair Orchestras?

Question:Hi I've been playing for three years and I really want to be in an orchestra. I now play Mendelssohn Violin Concerto and I am almost finished with the first mov. However I am only ten so they only let me in a string orchestra because of my age. Do you think this is fair? And would someone pls help me where I can find a good orchestra near Fullerton, CA? Thanks for your help.

Well, part of being a musician is paying some dues, and lingering in a lesser ensemble is just part of that. Don't despair though, playing in anything is a good experience and of value. You might also consider looking for a local youth orchestra. I did a quick Google search and California has a lot of them. And of course, ask your teacher if there exist any local civic performing opportunites. But remember, you are quite young, and sometimes you just have to wait a bit. You'll get there one day. Good luck with your playing.
