I'd recommend that you talk with the band director to try a few instruments, and see what best suits you. There are MANY things to consider when choosing an instrument, so you'll want to play one that you'll benefit most from. Some of the things to consider are cost of the instrument, instrumental repairs, your hand size and arm legnth, lip shape, and facial features. Your band director can help you with this. Sometimes, if you're willing to play a rare(ish) instrument (such as oboe or bassoon), the school may provide the instrument and privates lessons to you for free. No matter what instrument you end up choosing, I would HIGHLY recommend that you take private lessons, especially if you can learn from someone that specifically plays your instrument. That way you'll have individualized attention with your playing and learn more in detail about the particulars about your instrument.

I would also highly recommend that you continue on with your singing. It will only enhance your playing and is GREAT for developing your musical ear (hearing intervals, harmonies, playing/singing on pitch, etc). Piano skills would also be a big benefit too, if that interests you at all. Even rudementary piano skills will help you with other areas of musical training later on.

So all and all, try out the instruments for yourself and see what best suits you. Don't pay attention to the stereotypes..there are MANY excellent players on each instrument from both sexes. In the real world of being a professional musician, an instrument is just an instrument. Who makes the real music is the artist him/herself.

Have fun!

Start with the Flute, it has the same fingerings as the piccolo, basically the bassoon and oboe!

Plus they are more 'girl' instruments

electric guitar ..good old cranked up rock guitar stuff ya cant beat it but it aint easy to learn ..properly that is

i would try the snair drum since you like to sing i bet you have rythem and a drum would be a good choice

Don't do the flute. Every girl does the flute.

I would say either drums or the alto sax.

I played the clarinet when I was in middle school. It's an easy instrument to play and I think it has a beautiful sound. The hardest thing to learn about the clarinet is the correct use of the reed. Also, the saxophone uses a reed and basically the same concept as the clarinet.

Just to let you know where my opinion is coming from in 6th grade they had us try several instruments which were the flute, trumpet, trombone, and clarinet. Out of all four of those I found the clarinet the easiest.

CLARINET!
it is soooo easy to learn when first starting.
I've been playing for almost 4 years now, and Im in all-state band.
I'm really glad I chose this instrument.
I've pretty much mastered it, so don't freak out by how many keys are on it.
Once you learn clarinet, you can easily switch to alto saxophone, bari sax, etc. because the fingerings are so similiar.
I'm also a singer, and playing clarinet has helped me with rythms and pitches.
Overall, you'll be glad you chose it.
=D

simple, listen to your self and find out what kind of music touches your thoughts and feelings

I would say play the saxophone. A long time ago I used to play it and it was great but then I moved to a different school without a band class so I stopped. But u should really try it.

well...for Marching Band...Mellophone!!

or just the French Horn...

Flute is a popular and pretty instrument
Piano and Guitar are fun, pretty and you can sing along
Saxophone is fun, jazzy, and useful :)

Have fun!!
