Position:Home>Performing Arts> Any good guitar excercises?

Question:I am a beginner at guitar. I played for a while then dropped it so now I am forced to reteach myself. What are some good excercises that can help me with fingering, picking, and finger tapping? Obviously, I know the basics of picking, it's a given, but what are some excercises that can teach me speed with a pick?

I have found that it is awesome to run extended scale patterns and incorporate string skipping, this will do 3 things at once, obviously the scale pattern, finger and string skipping and force you to practice and get good at economy picking for speed.
A suggestion, subscribe to a guitar magazine,(Guitar One) is my favorite, they have tabs for songs, and lessons on multipl techniques and music forms in every issue.Alsoget some music from Paul Gilbert,Randy Rhoads, and Steve Vai,all 3 are awesome at speed and meticulous at musicianship.Good luck and don't put it down this time,ROCK ON
