My singing sucks, but I love to sing! What should I do?

Question:I've heard myself in a recording singing, I SUCK! but i love to sing and my problem is that 1) I can't sing very high and 2) I'm flat. Are there any vocal things I could do to make my voice better? Anything at all? Like practicing something?! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! And I will not give up! haha.

Voice lessons would be beneficial, of course.

But in the meantime - practice. Not just practice, but practice and record yourself. It sounds like you're discriminating enough to know what you want to change and what needs improvement.

Sing something, record it, - play it back. Were you happy with it? If not, try to change what you didn't like. Sing, record, listen, fix.

It's a bit like torture at first - lol, but it does really help.

Once you start taking voice lessons, or you get advice from people in the know... keep singing, recording, listening, and fixing... just incorporate their advice.

What's really cool now is that they have tones of accompaniment and karaoke cds you can buy. Practice a song you really enjoy... with accompaniment, you can really work on your pitch.

No. Just don't try to have a career or be a professional singer. You either have it or you don't. The only thing you could do that is remotely professional, if you got some vocal lessons, would be to join a choir - because you could possibly pull it off in a group. But if you totally suck & your flat you'll ruin the choir anyway. Just be happy with what you are and stop trying to be something your not. We all would love to have certain talents we don't have but if you don't have it you have to learn to be content. Don't be pathtic and try to be a singer if you don't have the ability to be one.

but singing along to the radio or kareoke is fun and no one will make fun of you (unless you go in public)
