Position:Home>Performing Arts> Are Opera singers or people that sing Opera attractive or repulsive?

Question:Fred,
there have been some very gifted people vocally who have not made it to society's standards of beauty. Pity poor society.
there have been some very (socially) beautiful people who don't sing well. Pity poor opera lovers.
It used to be that the vocal talent was the one to be appreciated, but that was back in the bad old days when there was no visual media to contend with. Since the advent of movies and TV, the visual factor has almost taken over. Granted, being severely overweight is not the best plus for anyone's health, let alone opera singing, but it shouldn't be THE deciding factor.
I'm very prejudiced. I like opera singers, I find them all attractive, and mostly not visually, but aurally.
when I was a kid, I was afraid of those big voices. The actual sound waves almost hurt, and were certainly nothing in my daily routine of experience. With time and practice, i learned how to accept them ( and by gosh, like them)
Standing next to a full-blown opera singer can be as fun as a roller-coaster ride!

I have always considered the terms " attractive" and "repulsive" to be descriptions of the kind of person that someone is. I know people who would be considered a bit on the ugly side, physically, but they are extremely attractive people. I also know people who are very repulsive who are considered to be good looking.

It would depend on the individual and the fact that they might sing opera is irrelevant. I happen to find opera singers to be attractive in general, but that's because I love opera and the people who sing it live, are all a part of that love. I mean, they are the ones making it happen.

I don't know what would make anyone ask a question like this, but opera singers are no more attractive or unattractive than any other people. I consider Placido Domingo and Rene Fleming, for instance, beautiful people, and Anna Moffo and Mary Costa were considered great beauties throughout the world. Franco Correlli, Mirella Freni, Kallen Esperian - give me a break! Beautiful people with voices to match.

And what do you think of this one?

I rest my case.
