Question:Some people say passion is something given from start,
How do (or did) you stay consistently motivated to become better at something?

It doesn't sound like you have a problem with passion, it sounds like motivation.
For myself, I have a passion for music. Finding where I fit in and what excites me the most within music has been where I get my passion (motivation) from.
What motivates me are the possiblities that music can provide for my students and myself...a stunning performance, mastering something we have studied all semester, finally *understanding* the goal of what we've been working to accomplish this whole time, seeing the look in someones eyes when they've played and given everything they can. When someone finds a home with an instrument in their hand, or listening and studying music....
that's my motivation.

I lose motivation to practice all the time and I'm a senior in college studying music. But, I've established a practice schedule as a routine, and once I begin practicing, the motivation returns.

What is it about music that you love?
What do you think it will take to achieve what you love? Many people confuse the point of music as a quick, tangible, instant-gratification activity. Those musicians die out quickly. Think of something that music does for you--does it give you an outlet? Can you express yourself better with an instrument than with words? Find an INTERNAL motivation for music and practicing.

Practicing doesn't mean sitting down for hours per day and forcing yourself to go through the routine. Practicing means finding a method that works best for YOU and gives you the best results for YOU.
I break up practicing into two 30 minute sessions per day minimum when I'm studying technique. Before you even pick up the instrument, decide what you want to accomplish with this session and decide how you will get there. Don't just aimlessly practice with no point or because you "have to" or you won't retain anything.
Experiment, ask veteran musicians how they practice. Steal their ideas until you develop something of your own!

Good luck and keep practicing.

you can only have passion for something you like and comes natural to you,if you dont enjoy something then you cant force yourself to find passion for it.

You make sure you congradulate yourself often on what you've acheived and reward yourself on how close your getting to your goal. Linking it to something else you have a passion for is a good motivator too. But you have to have an interest.

I think passion is not something you can create in yourself. You pretty much have it, or you don't.

I understand completely what you mean. I have played horn now for over 35 years, and there are times when it does seem to get a little old, even dull. It can be tough to keep my interest level at a high enough point.

Find a teacher you are sexually attracted to - it has been proven to keep students motivated and increased learning ability in students for thousands of years.

You can only have passion for something that you love, you either have it or you don't....you can't make yourself have a passion for something....you know right from the start if you going to love something or not. Example : When I first heard the classical guitar, I said, wow, I want to make that sound, I was about nine at the time....when I first learned how to play chess I said this game was made for me, I loved it and still do today, when I read my first book I knew that this was something I would love for the rest of my life and I do, today I'm an avid reader....so my point is that when you first do or discover something you know if this is something that you could have a passion for....and everything that I thought that I could go for has been my life long passion, especially playing classical guitar....if I could do that eight hours a day I would be the happiest person in the world....the same with playing chess....so you either have a passion for it or you don't.....if you don't have a passion for playing guitar what's the difference, play it occasionally....and have fun, we all don't have a passion for everything that we do !!!!!!!!!!
