Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: i'd really like an Italian love song.

Laschia Ch'io Pianga as sung by Chloe Agnew on the album "Celtic Woman: A new Journey"

Also spelled Lascia ch'io Pianga, and written by Handel, it is perhaps one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Many including Charlotte Church have done it, but Chloe's version brings tears to my eyes.

You can put the second spelling into Youtube, and lots of versions will pop up.

If you have the chops, this should insure you win the job.

"Caro Mio Ben" by Giuseppe Giordani is an easy and pretty Italian love song in a range that should be easy to handle for a high school soprano, or an alto with a good range, or even a tenor. (You didn't say what voice type you are.) You can find it in the standard book "24 Italian Songs and Arias of the 17th & 18th Centuries", (which is a good purchase for many other similar songs) or you can probably download it from someplace like SheetmusicPlus.com. If not that, and if you are fairly good at Italian, then I would look to the great Italian operas such as Boheme, Traviata, Tosca, etc. and choose an aria from one of those.

Go to your local music store and get the book "24 Italian Songs and Arias". Anyone who has ever studied voice seriously has this book, and any number in the book would make a good audition for your high school choir. My personal favorite is "Caro Mio Ben".
