What are some good ideas for girls to do in a talent show?

So why not sing and dance? If you go with the tried and true (broadway, for example) then make sure your talent is spot on. Remember, the tried and true has been done as well as it can be. If you come in sloppy, judges will see it as a mockery of the classics.

If you try something modern, make sure it's crisp and clean. Nothing is worse than having something that is fresh and now torn apart by someone who can't handle it. It's awful.

If you try something experimental, make sure it connects with your audience. Howling at the judges and jumping around like kangaroos aren't going to win you any points.

Be clean, crisp and professional. Practice. When you come in, make sure you know your routine. Don't just say "it's good enough." A routine can always be tweeked and cleaned up. Get your friends and family to critique you (honestly). Or tape yourselves so you can see what you're doing before you get to the judges. A good idea is to watch some of the talent shows on TV like American Idol to see what works and what doesn't. Listen to Simon. He's an a*s, but he knows what he's talking about.

I've judged enough open auditions to know those are the common mistakes people make.
