If you play guitar right handed, then why do you have to do the fretting with yo

Question:I'm 11 and left handed but I play guitar right handed. Kurt Cobain of Nirvana played simulary; he was right handed, but he played left handed. If the strumming is easier than fretting, then shouldn't you do the fretting with your dominant hand? So why do you have to play the difficult way?

You know, I've wondered about that myself a number of times, but I've still never come up with a decent answer. Maybe it isn't as hard to coordinate your left fingers as it is to coordinate other muscles in your left hand? For example, when you type on a keyboard, it isn't any easier to type with your right hand than with your left hand.

That's just a bunch of speculation, but I hope it helps!

the way u first pick up a guitar is the way you'll learn to play it. it;s what feels comfortable to u.

your fret hand does not have to be as deft as your strum hand. for your fret hand, all you have to do is hold the strings down, and change chords and such. once you get good enough at it, most if not all of it just becomes muscle memory. however, with your strumming hand, your fingers and wrist movements have to be much more deft. you have to be more careful not to hit the wrong strings, especially in heavy, complicated, fast strumming. it gets even harder when it comes to picking, especially heavy, complicated, fast picking. some of it becomes muscle memory too once you know the song well enough, but not as much as fretting. that's also part of the reasons most guitarists tend tolook down at their strumming hand when they play.
