I'm not going to insult you. I'm going to answer your question as best as I can in very easy to understand terms.

A guitar pickup is on the body of guitar. It receives the
strings vibrations signals and takes it back inside and
pushes that signal out your guitar amp. Hence the name "Pickup". All it does is just picks up the strings vibration signal. There are 2 types of standard guitar pickups.
There are "Humbuckers" and there are "Single Coil pickups"
On a Fender Stratocaster. You would see 3 "Single Coil Pickups" in different places on the guitar body. A "Humbucker" is a combo pickup consisiting of 2 Single Coil Pickups wrapped tight together in a small little box for a more louder, punhhier sound and output. The single coil pickups are smaller and thinner in size.

The most popular and best brands are
1. Gibson
2. Seymour Duncan
3. Fender
4. Dimarzio

They all vary in price depending on what sound you want.
Some are $30 for each pickup and some are $120 for each pickup. Everybody has different tastes in guitar pickups and in music styles too. Just like shoes....everybody wears a different pair shoes. It's the same, basic concept here

How do you change them??? There are only
2 ways to do it....

1. You can do it yourself only, IF you know exactly what you doing on your guitar. You need to know what you are doing or you can ruin your guitar big time.
2. Or you can pay a PRO Guitar Tech to install them for you.
They vary in prices and ranges. It depends on who is your Guitar Tech. I personally pay a Guitar Tech to do it for me since I don't want to screw up my guitar on my own.

A guitar pickup is basically a magnet that transforms the vibrations of the strings into an electrical signal that can be sent to a guitar amp. Seymour Duncan is probably the biggest name out there, although Dimarzio, Fender, Gibson, and Gretsch all make guitar pickups as well.

Unless you know what you're doing, it's a BAD idea to change your own pickups. It's not like you just pop them in the guitar and screw them in place. Most pickups have 3 or 4 wires that you need to solder to the proper terminals on the volume and tone knobs, and you have to adjust the height of the pickups properly too. Bottom line: take your guitar to a guitar shop and have a pro guitar tech upgrade the PUs for you.
