I think so... I offered to teach my nephew how to play a real guitar and he looked at me like I was insane lol

Doubt it very much.

I badly wanted to play real guitar when I was a kid. This thing would have held my interest for about 10 seconds.
However, I'm all for anything that stimulates interest in music.
Do yourself a favor and buy an Epiphone guitar and a headphone amp, then learn to play real guitar!!!!

yes

It depends, if you like guitar then they'd like it. It is more for teenagers so it is not best to give it to ages under 11

Maybe when they are still young, it's like saying racing games will affect them on wanting to drive...

I play guitar, and have got guitar hero and i don't think it has a bad effect on kids who want to or do play instruments.

I think it kinda encourages learning guitar in my opinion.

yes!! my teenage daughter taught her self to play acoustic guitar.she says the same thing about guitar hero..just like clocks that are all digital now.not a lot of kids no how to tell time with the old manual clock

I think if the kid is going to play a real instrument, they would already picked it up at the age of 3-7. The average age that is playing guitar hero is teenagers to young adults.

I think GH gives them a chance to do something that they missed out on when they were a kid.

GH also makes the kid more social, in my opinion. On the 360, (i don't know how the WII and PS are), they can play on live and interact with others. They can also system link it to each other and play with a brother, sister, friend, mom, dad, grandparents and whoever else.

I would recommend Rock Band. I have that and its so much fun. 4 people can play at the same time. There is a drummer, a singer, two guitars.

Even though, GH is nothing like the real thing, it still takes some serious skills to play it. Its own skill away from the real guitar.

Also, GH can help ones reaction time. At least they are thinking somewhat while playing and it is some sorts of excising depending on how you play. Play standing up and move around.

i love guitar hero it is soooooo much fun i personally dont want to learn to play a real guitar but guitar hero is a blast and you dont really have to learn anything

hi martin i think it is because it is like pressing buttons and a guitar you gave string and stuff and to play music it is a lot easier

I think Guitar Heros is bad - full stop. It is nothing like the real thing, it has coloured buttons instead of strings and has computer generated freaks dancing around on the TV.
If a kid likes this game, then their not going to want to actually try hard and work! They just want to sit around all day and press buttons.
And if a kid thinks negatively towards the game, then they'll think negatively towards Guitars themselves.

NO!!!!! i think it isn't b/c it could be for those who cant play any instruments, i have tried to play guitar when once before the game was even was thought of. i failed miserably at the guitar! I love the game b/c now i feel like i can actually play an instrument and I'm good at it. plus its fun!!!!!!!!!!

i have heard people say that this game is a bad influence on kids learning real guitar and that it is a bad game. ive been learning real guitar for about 4 months and have been playing guitar hero since the beginning of summer. i think it encourages kids to practice more because it give u the experience of being a rockstar or pro which is more motavation to learn and practice real guitar. i know its motivating me and im pretty good at real guitar now. i think guitar hero is so much fun as is a real guitar. but its all opinionized. its not really a threat to guitarists everywhere. its a game

No not really....but I did say to someone in my family just today that I don't get it....why spend all that time learning a song on a fake guitar....why not apply it to the real thing....I teach classical guitar, so maybe this has an influence on me....I don't know....now if you look at it as just a game maybe I could see the point of wanting to play it, but to see this as a guitar teacher...I sure hope not....I've played the Guitar Hero, and I swear I don't get it. I really don't think it has a bad influence on kids because someone in my family has played this for over a year...and for this Christmas he wants a real guitar, ( he's sixteen)....so I'm sure that there's going to be pro and con for this game....but as I say, as a teacher of guitar I'm not seeing it as being a bad influence yet !!!!!!!!!

This could go two ways, first, they could buy a guitar and find its not as easy to master as the game and give up.

But anyone who is really passionate about music, and lets face it, these are the ones we want to master the art, will not be affected by this.

And many people want to produce their own music, while guitar hero lets you play a simple form as instrument for some popular bands, it doesn't exactly stretch there imagination and kids are creative people, very creative in fact.

Perhaps if parents see a child with a passion for the game they should look into purchasing a real guitar for them, encouragement is always the key..

no i play guitar hero and it's made me really really want to learn how to play real guitar.

actually no
guitar hero really gets the brain thinking
as well as playing real musical instrument although i would encourage learning real musical intrruments since there are like 100 things to think about in a second of playing an intrument (that's why people who play more intruments are "smarter")

Only if you think technique, theory, learning how to play an instrument and practice are important elements of learning how to play an instrument.

Using guitar hero to learn how to play a guitar is like giving a kid a word processor with spell check and telling him to learn how to spell.

As far as learning to play a guitar I'd have to say yes, because the game controller (guitar) does not resemble a real guitar at all. Its just a game and should not be used as a replacement for traditional learning.
