Position:Home>Performing Arts> What type of trombone is the best to buy?

Question:Type?

There are standard tenor trombones, there are bass trombones, and then there are tenor trombones with F-attachments. There are also alto trombones and soprano trombones. The normal trombonists I know prefer the tenors with F-attachments--the bass, alto, and soprano models are only for early music or free jazz or avant-garde stuff.

If you're looking for brand, Holton, Bach, and Getzen are respected brands. Note that each manufactures different models, which one is best for you is a matter of personal taste--if you don't know much about trombones, get yourself a working student model and learn to play it, then find a music store that will allow you to try out different models.

You really can't go wrong here. I own a King trombone, and have had it for over 25 years. In high school, rather than carry mine to and from school for band practice, I used one that the school owned. Neither was better than the other.

Good luck in your pursuit! It is a fun instrument to play.

TR has great answer. Dont' forget YAMAHA and CONN. These are two great brands of trombone, student or professional models. Good Luck!

When in doubt look to Christian Lindberg for advice! I've always used a Conn or Bach with F attachment.
