Position:Home>Performing Arts> Should I buy an acoustic or acoustic/electric guitar?

Question:I have been playing electric guitar for about a year now, but I really want an acoustic guitar. I have no idea how to buy an acoustic guitar, what some good brands are, or even if I should get a acoustic or an acoustic/electric guitar! The highest price my parents are willing to pay is probably around $300. I am probably going to get a used one because you can get a lot nicer used guitar for $300 than you can get a new one.

So any help with buying an acoustic guitar will be appreciated!

If you are looking for a good Acoustic/Electric guitar.
Got for an Ibanez cause they look great, and play great.
Ibanez doesn't make junk guitars.

The only obvious difference is with an acoustic/electric is:
You can play through and amp cause it has an internal pickup inside the body chamber. Meaning you can soft folksy songs or you can play rock songs through an amp. That's the main difference between acoustic guitars and acoustic/electric guitars. One is played without an amp...and the other is played through an amp. Good luck

Have fun

Celebrity Ovation- 300$ new, even less for used. I own one and it's awesome. It even compares to way higher acoustic guitars like the Gibson Songwriter. It sounds very clean acoustically or electrically. Overall completely rad guitar.

Ibanez is a great acoustic but I don't think you can touch one for 300.....

my son's cost over 1,000 but he has played for awhile....

good luck and keep rocking out...

My husband has played acoustic and electric for years. He has owned a couple of acoustic/electrics. Search online to see what guitars are offered and their price ranges. www.gbase.com has a Brand New Washburn DK20CET Acoustic/Electric Pack with GigBag for $199.00. (I did not like the back of the guitar because the wood was not joined seamlessly but has a very obvious line down the back.) Look at ebay to see what is selling and the styles out there. These will give you an idea of what you want when you go to make a purchase.

If you have a particular maker that you enjoy using search their website to see if they offer an acoustic/electric. I think you could get an acoustic/electric for around $300, especially if you know the music store has had one that they can't seem to sell (as long as there are no electric/cosmetic defects that prevent a sale). Ask if you can borrow one overnight to play and use on your own equipment. We have bought guitars that sound great in the store but on our amps, etc. they don't sound as good.

Good luck!

go for the accoustic/electric, it's much more vercitile, and you can do the same things on that, which you could do on a regular accounstic.

Well, if you are living in an apartment that doesn't allow for amplified noise, try an acoustic guitar instead.

Only buy an acoustic-electric guitar if you want something louder. But it is best to put earphones on your amplifier so you can hear only yourself and disturb your neighbors.

That is all I have to say.
