You obviously know not to drink anything with caffiene or anything carbonated before singing. You should also stay away from dairy - especially milk, cheese, and ice cream.

The best things I've found in the past are the following:

- Warm tea. Prepare like normal, but DO NOT add any sugar or cream. Try to stay away from crazy flavored tea as well. Green tea is a good choice, or any natural tea flavorings.

- Lemon Juice. You can find little lemon-shaped containers at your grocery store in the produce section. Squirt three shots down your throat about 10 minutes prior to singing. It tastes pretty horrid, but it coats your throat very nicely.

- Water is an obvious suggestion, but what most people don't know is that extremely cold water actually makes your vocal chords stiff. As strange as it sounds, mild-temp. tap water is the best drinking water before singing. DO NOT use ice!

- Another suggestion aside from liquids is a hard mint. Suck on one 10-15 minutes before singing. The mint actually will open up your throat and clear phlem. The candy also coats your throat creating flexibility in your vocal chords.

There are lots of websites online that can tell you more suggestions as well. Try typing in "Voice Preservation Techniques" in your search bar. These types of sites will also give you suggestions toward long-term vocal health.

something warm like tea. Also I heard a lot of professional singers say they sit in a room with a humidifier near by to help there voice.

I know it!!I know it!!u drink root beer or dr pepper and it will work guaranteed

drink something warm, with no dairy in it. Honey helps too.

Water! Tea, pop/soda, and coffee have caffeine which can constrict your vocal cords and dry out your voice. If you don't like plain water, then put a slice of lemon in it to freshen the taste. Your voice will feel better if you're hydrated (caffeine robs you of hydration). Also, to keep from "cracking" make sure you warm up vocally before you sing and breathe correctly. Cracking often comes from pushing or a lack of proper breath support.

anything warm basically with a neutral taste. (water, tea) etc.
