Question:There is a musical group called "Amici Musicali". If I name a different group "Amici Musicale" is that illegal? Or can I name the group "The San Diego Amici Musicali"?

Both musicali and musicale seem to be correct Italian words.

I can't tell you if there are groups with those names, but remember "Amici musicale" in Italian is wrong, since "amici" is plural and "musicale" is singular. "Amici musicali" is correct (both plural) but sounds strange, in Italian. Musicale when referring to a person is generally only used for a critic, reviewer: "un critico musicale".
Better option could be "Amici della musica" ("Friends of the music") "Amici musicanti" (musicante = musician, bandsman) or even "Amici musici" (musico seems archaic, but still in use today; may give a hint of "storyteller")
