Question:How do I get really good and fast speedpicking on the guitar ? I know to practice, but also, speed picking and at the same time string skipping cleanly, like:

|-------4-5------5-2-
|----------------------- (Everything speedpicked)
|-000-----000------

I need help with it cause I can go pretty fast but I always end up getting a pinch harmonic (squeal) at some point.

Any help or site links is well appreciated ! Thank you's

I mainly practice one, I guess you could call it a riff that has a lot of emphasis on string skipping, that I got from a paul Gilbert instructional DVD. the tabs for it are

E14---10--------------------
B-------------------------------
G-------------14---11--------
D--------------------------12--
A--------------------------------
E--------------------------------

E-------------------10
B----------------------
G-11-----14---------
D---------------------
A---------------------
E---------------------

E-------------------------------
B---------------------10------
G-------------------------------
D-----11----14---------------
A12----------------------------
E--------------------------------

B14----10----------------
G--------------14-----10
D---------------------------
A---------------------------
E---------------------------

Practicing that will help you out with string skips and alternate picking if you use it.

to help me pick real fast I use small and heavy picks... jazz ||| or Dunlop tortex teardrops are good.
just play it slow and gradualy increase your speed

practice with a metronome at a slow speed then when you master that speed go faster and so on and before you know it you will be able to play it at the original speed and faster also try practicing your scales and use some thick picks

Buy his instructional video on it; he's the king of this picking!

Learn pieces slow and accurate - but in a steady tempo.

you are building muscle memory and uit is easier to speed up something accurate than to learn it wrong at top speed and trying to fix it.

go on YouTube and check Paul Gilbert. You think you got speed? Check his lessons. It will certainly help and if you push the envelope, check Frank Gambale. You should have your moneys worth.
