Position:Home>Performing Arts> Moving around with electric guitar help me please?

Question:help.

I wanna move around (jump etc) when playing guitar but i have trouble because my guitar is really heavy (heavier then the average) and whenever i jump it whams me in the hip bone and KILLS.
I have bruises.

Plus i find it really hard to concentrate on the song when i move around.. but i want to learn because my fav bands on stage make it look so easy.. plus i look like a dead stick when i play :(

please can someone give me some tips on this ..

Far as the bruises go, you need to carry it differently or get a lighter guitar. Or maybe build up some calluses on your hips :-)
You can almost always get a lighter guitar; there would of course be questions of cost and sound, but you can. I have a pretty heavy electric myself (along with three acoustics), but I'm a big guy.

As far as moving around and concentrating... any time you add a new activity, it distracts you from the one you're used to. Do you sing and play? If you don't, try it... you'll probably see what I mean... your brain isn't automatically able to combine two activities that require concentration, even if you can do them alone. The only way to build this kind of coordination is to practice it. And your stage presence... that's also something you HAVE to practice. And in practicing, you will get better. Just like learnin the guitar in the first place.

1 : get a lighter guitar
2: get a wireless set up
3: Get a lighter guitar
4: Or you can get a lighter guitar??
5: OO ya Gain some weight and work out maybe??

practice while standing up instead of sitting down. maybe start playing while just walkin around ur room. get a wireless system. maybe tryin holding ur guitar up or against ur body with fingers on your strumming hand that arent holding ur pick and ur forearm while ur jumpin around. it aint easy to play while going crazy on stage for anybody.

Playing while moving is a skill that takes a while to develop. First try playing and walking, which can be a challenge. After a while the brain figures out how to do both things at once. Give yourself three months to get it down. After that you'll be running and jumping all over the place. Since your guitar so heavy (a Gibson Les Paul, maybe?) try this with an acoustic guitar and save your heavy axe for the gig.
Good luck!
