Question:could I? or would have to switch to a euphonium.. i heard they switched for a nice dark tone, but im not entirely sure (i know i already missed 2008 tryouts, this is for later on)

Unless you are in Europe I doubt you have a baritone. Baritone is a term that is commonly wrongly applied to euphoniums. The terms are used interchangeably in the U.S. but the differences between the two instruments are significant. The baritone is a cylindrical bore instrument, the instrument is shaped like a cylinder for most of its length. The euphonium is a conical bore instrument, the instrument is shaped like a cone for most of its length.

The difference in sound is that the euphonium definitely has a darker, rounder sound.

To be sure what instrument you actually have, check out the make, model, and serial number with an instrument dealer, or even a website, that should give you all the info that you need.
