the instrument does won't make you play better. If you are good, and like skinny frets, buy the Les Paul Custom. But if you want sustain, but the Standard. The frets are fatter.

No idea what you are talking about! Maybe ask your guitar teacher! (If it is a guitar like i think it is)

From what I have read in online reviews, Epi Les Paul standard is preferred (I wish I had the funds to buy this guitar).
