Question:Our church group is looking into investing in a new drum set for service/music. Electric or acoustic, we need some suggestions from actual drummers. I own a Tama (acoustic) set, but some of the other musicians want to go with the Roland touring set at $1400. This may be more than congregation is willing to spend so i am researching other options. Any suggestions?

I'm a drummer of 20 years. Well, Yamaha does have some killer drum kits too. They are little more pricey, but I've heard good stuff about them. They are not junk, that's for sure.
I've been doing my music instrument reseacrh lately.

Also, did you know that Yamaha work with churches?
Yes, it's true. You could see if they would donate musical instruments to your church too. That way, the Congregation saves big money and wouldn't have to buy that $1,400 Roland electronic kit. Your new drum kit could be donated to you instead...=)

Go here and see it for yourself.

and check their Yamaha programs.
Take care and best wishes.

it would depend on your denomination...if your more liberal then go acoustic....more conservative like southern baptist keep it electric and keep it quiet.. you can get good electric kits for under $1000( canadian)

I'm in the worship band at my church (Baptist) and we have an acoustic set with a plexi-glass shield and it works out fine. It's a smallish church (about 200 seats) and the drums don't overpower the congregation at all.

My concern about an electronic kit for us would be that they might be more trouble than they're worth. With less than pro sound people, it would make things even more overwhelming for them. If I were a drummer, I'd want to keep as much control as I could.
