Learning Guitar?

Question:Hey all, so I am a huge fan of Johnny Cash, and I would really like to learn guitar and play the old country music, like Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings etc., I have a couple questions, obviously one is is learning to play hard? my dad plays guitar and he's offered to give me lessons but whenever i get a "lesson" its just learning the E chord. is there any way besides a teacher (other then my dad i mean) i could learn? I don't like learning things on the internet to let you know, another thing is what is a good old fashion guitar? Thanks all

Get Hal Leonard's Beginning Guitar Method One. Inside are instructions on tuning, holding, caring, and playing the guitar. Basic chords and music theory abound in the book with good notation exercises for the student.

Meanwhile, consider a J45 Gibson or Martins--either a D-28 or a HD-35 if you want Johnny's authenticity.

Consider learning the runs his lead guitarist did in "I Walk the Line" and "Folsum Prison Blues." But it's most important to learn as many chords and their progressions before concentrating on the lead-ins and runs.

The song, "I Walk the Line" has given me a strong grasp of fillers that lead from one chord to the next, regardless if you're playing Country, Rock, or otherwise.

Practice slow and maintain control of your playing.

yes guitar is very hard at first. u will soon get callused fingers. i would go with a professional teacher from a local guitar shop. nice guitar would be a Gibson!

Grab a guitar book, I learned piano and guitar through books, but it's always nice to have someone who knows what they are doing around when you have a question.

Print some tab and go at it...

Than meet other peeps that play and check out how they are learning.

Definitely learn your power chords, and regular chords.

You will learn a lot just picking up some tab or a guitar magazine and reading it cover to cover.

You should probably start off with a nylon guitar. E chord you will have to know for later to play a lot of songs, so knowing it, is a lesson. Get a tutor. Some sites have jobs that people do, and you can email some of them, asking them to tutor you.

I learned how to play guitar by myself. Its not that hard. There are many websites online as well as youtube that help teach guitar. So even though you don't like learning off the internet, that could be your last resort. There are books that teach guitar. And by the way, the first chord I learned was an Em and now, I can play songs I hear on the radio. I think you should start with a beginner guitar, one that's not so expensive, and see if you're really into it. And then when you get better, you could always upgrade.

as for the learning question no it is really easy
you can buy teach yourself books at any nusic store and while you are tehere you can get the guitar basically if your learning just get an acoustic like a yamaha or squire and practice on that

Learn the basics first from your dad or another teacher in your area, and then buy a guitar chord book and start learnin the chords, then learn how to read music and tabs. Then practice scales, this all will make you a better guitar player, but you seem more into rythem guitar then lead so it will be much easier for you. Good Luck though.
