Position:Home>Performing Arts> How can i hold onto the double high c?

Question:im a trumpet player in my freshman (highschool) band. i have lead part in all my music. i can hit a double high D no problem but its when my lips get tired that i cant hold on to it for very long. our concert is on monday and at the end of one of the songs, i have to play a double high C and hold it for 7 measures. it is easy for me but my only problem is that it is on the last 7 measures of the last song! so by the time i get to the part where i have to play the C, my lips are almost out of juice. what are some excersizes i can do to make this easier for myself to keep this note going. like i said, i dont have a problem getting it out because i can play a double high D no sweat, its just that my lips are tired by the time i have to play it. also, what does it mean to "lip down" a note? thank you :)

This is going to sound silly, but practice. You'll build endurance to play the note longer and it'll sound better with practice. (Be sure you take breaks and use lots of chapstick...water helps keep them moist too!) And "lip down" a note means to take it down an octave other than the one written...just use your buzzing/embochure* to do it...it's all in the buzzing! Good luck!
