Question:I am looking to purchase a guitar for my son for Christmas. I am wonder if a Fender DG-8S Accoustic is a good guitar. He do not listen to country, so a twangy sound is not what we are going for. Also would we also invest in an electric tuner? Thanks for much for your help :)

I have a fender acoustic that I am happy with. Not sure of the model. It was under $200, though. You can get an electric tuner for under $20 and it's well worth it - necessary I should say.
Also, you should get a case or gigbag to store the guitar. As far as acoustics go, you should get help from the sales person (if they know guitars) Each is a little different and you want one that plays easy. This is called the action.

buy a fender strat and amp

Stick with the accousick. I have a 10 year old son, and last year I got him that same guitar. He was just like your son and mine couldn't put it down. He now does lessons.

Sure, that's a pretty nice guitar to start out on. And definitely do invest in a chromatic tuner. You can find pretty decent ones at Guitar Center for less than $20.

If you look it up on Google, you will find some sale prices to compare with what you have and some reviews that say that it is a pretty good deal. There is, if you did not know it, a whole pack of things available in a special deal for about $199, if you are not getting that, then I would look at the deal.

It includes a program to teach, a neck strap, an electric tuner and a few other things.

On of the reviews that I read said that the low E, the top string, has a little buzz on it but that is probably a problem that with specific guitar and if it was there, it would easily come out.

hi, yes thats a great guitar, you cant go wrong with fender, im going to assume you mean accoustic electric? as far as the sound , its really the way he wants to play , you get a country sound playing country so it will not matter, the person themself make that country sound. as far as tuners, i like ibanez or boss, if he is only begining to play , i would get a med. priced tunner, good luck and GOD BLESS.

ya its alright
and yes defanitly invest in a electric tuner

You might want to check out the Acoustic/Electric Ibanez guitars. They have killer colors and a real good sound to them. Some of them also use the Fishman pickups on them too for a clearer amplified sound. as for tuners. Check out the QUIKTUNE ones. They make good Metronomes because I used to own one.

I wish that you would have said how old your son was....I always want the person playing the guitar to be the one to pick it out....it has to suite his hands and fingers... and the action has to be correct for his fingers, the strings can't be to high, or too low, also the sound has to be what he likes....why not take him before Christmas and let him pick out one. If he's a beginner I would keep it at about $200.00. The Guitar Center has a nice Yamaha acoustic for that price....and I think that's just right for someone just starting out....they may not have the talent or the patience to play....not everyone does, as for the fender, that's good for a starter guitar....I'm not completely sure of that model...I think that I know the one that you mean, but I'm not 100 % sure. As for an electronic tuner you can get them for free on sites like http://www.8notes.com/ just click on the guitar, and the tuner is on the homepage, it's the little box on the right that looks like six vertigal lines...just click on the line and you'll heard the correct pitch.....good luck, bye !!!!
