How Do You Practice Your Guttural Vocals?

Question:I've been practicing my guttural vocals for some time now, with the intent of being capable of a more melodic voice like Johan Hegg. Does anyone have any advice on some of their techniques or practices they use?

my only tip would be to be VERY cautious that you are doing this correctly! I'd HIGHLY recommend you only do this under the supervision of a vocal coach. might sound ridiculous, but I've spent the past five years working for a multi-grammy-award-winning band who just had to RETIRE because our lead singer blew his vocal chords from not singing properly (for too long)! he was known for his rough/gruff voice and did a LOT of guttural singing...

so, yes... I'd definitely recommend a vocal coach to help you with this! it isn't the type of thing you should attempt to 'learn' and/or even practice on your own!
