As a music and theatre teacher, I would say encourage this, be their biggest cheerleader! But don't push it, "water the garden gently". Maybe have your son or daughter take a acting class or camp, maybe they'll even be at the right place at the right time.
As a parent I would say, let them ask to do more before you push them. My children are encouraged to take music lessons and participate in music and theatre activities, but the decision to do, or not to do something, is totally their free choice. I will add that I insist they complete what they start- that is a good lesson, no matter what career path they choose as an adult.

Better be in this for the long haul....10years ago my daughter seemed to take to being behind the camera....people would say put her in commecials or tv...I barely brushed the surface of looking into the possibilities and effort to see I was in a whole other world. Head shots and portfolio was going to be $800-$1000 dollars, agent representation was $2500 retainer until something could be booked, after initial paying job you would have to join SAG...another several hundred. I was told plan on going to dozens of auditions each week all over town, and to get used to the idea that out of 50 u may get one call back...lots of work, make sure u have the money, support, and time to get in all the way....it is along way from here to the big screen. Good Luck!

I think that YOU show a real interest.

Really? They have made their professional aspirations clearly known to you?

Or are you basing your assumption on their doing cute things while the camcorder is running?

No rudeness intended at all. It's just that show business is tremendously hard work and requires a major commitment of time. What an audience sees on screen looks fun and effortless, but that's the "magic" part -- the rest is a lot of sweat and work to make it look easy.
