Question:many reputable music stores offer beginner packages of a basic guitar & 10 watt amp package together with strap, picks and a care booklet. if you can find a good music dealer they will serve you well both now and in future.

if your son want to play electric guitar a classical guitar is no substitute. they are different instruments.

the squire series are excellent starter instruments, though if you can stretch to a gibson epiphone your son may never need a better instrument. personally i play a washburn, but ibanez, and many other brands, are also excellent.

If your son is a starter I would recommend and an acoustic/Classical guitar.

You want to get as good a guitar as you can afford, without going to something really expensive. Don't get something really cheap. You need excellent finger action (with reasonable tone), or his fingers will hurt and he'll get discouraged. Epiphone is made by Gibson and is a good starter instrument.

If i was you i would get either an Ibanez GRX20Z ($150) or a fender squire. Ibanez might not be the most well known brand, but there not in the shadows either. Ibanez guitars play awesome, they are easy to play and play very well. The ibanez GRX20Z is defentily the best guitar for the price.

I recommend a squier stratocaster
