Has anyone gone to the Phantom of the Opera?

Question:My husband got some tickets from his work (before he lost his job there) and a bunch of us are going in January. I've never been to the Opera. What is the Phantom of the Opera about, and what should I wear?

It is the most amazing show in this whole earth.
It's a tragic love story basically. I wont let myself rant or I will take up pages and pages...
it has beautiful, touching music. It is funny and yet the saddest, most heartbreaking story ever.
I think you will really love it if you love music and love stories. It doesn't have a happy ending though for my poor Phantom :(
If you are going to the evening show I would dress up a little but you really don't have to. I've been in jeans and a Phantom t-shirt before it just all depends. I've also seen people decked out in dresses/suits. Just white over black would be perfect. I hope you have a wonderful evening and enjoy!

Well... you know... IT'S BROADWAY!!! You should dress a little elegnt. not too much though. and well... the pahntom of the opera in one of my favorites!! I can't tell you what it is about... the idea is that you see it for yourself. There's a 2004 movie made of the story (very good actually).

IT'S BOUT A guy with a messed up thing he's hiding behind a mask called his face, and he wants to love someone but can't and another prince charming is in love with the same someone, and phantom (mask guy) wants other guy dead, and same with the other guy

i saw it like 5 years ago and i had nightmares cus i saw the movie version and not the play.

and i was really close to the screen so the pic was huge and i like peed myself cus i was really young and scared
and i cried because it was moving

Phantom of the Opera is not an opera... it's just a musical set in an opera setting.

It's based upon an old book by Gaston Leroux about a mysterious opera "ghost" and his obsession with a young budding opera diva. It's a fin show with great music, and is quite a fun spectacle.

Some people dress up for the theater. Others do not. Generally, people who spend a lot for good seats will dress up. Those of us who buy nosebleed type seats generally don't. Casual and presentable to tux and dress. The choice is yours.

I went to Phantom of the Opera in Vegas at the Venetian. I own the movie but had never watched it, so i thought i would be confused but i wasn't. I don't know if the one you are going to is different than the one i saw, but it wasn't exactly the stereotypical opera. Like it was all in english and there was some talking i think...As for what to wear, when i went i just wore nice jeans and a nice shirt. Nothing too formal. If you want you could just wear black pants or kahkis and a nice top. have fun and enjoy! it's an AMAZING show! i wish i could see it again!

The Phantom! It is about the phantom loving, and tricking and girl who loves someone else! He would do anything for her. One problem, he has a deformed face, is violent, and the girl he wants, Christine, is scared of him.
He paves the way for her, but she secretly gets engaged!

Yes, I have and it is amazing!!! It's the most romantic movie ever. It's about an opera house that has a Phantom. A very good looking Phantom. Can't tell you more, it will ruin it.

the phantom of the opera is an andrew lloyd webber musical and it has grossed millions of dollars and been running since the 1980's I think.
I went to see it in London in the early 1990's and it was fabulous.
The musical score is excellent it isnt an opera though thats just the name. The story is that there is a phantom (ghost) in the opera theatre.
What should you wear? Depends on what you guys are up to! Its not the opera so you could actually go in jeans...but youre a girl so take the advantage of getting your hair done and nails and wear something you feel great in.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera" is about a man who was born with a face disfiguration and is a musical genius of sorts (but is also a bit of a psychopath). The story is about a theater in the 1800's where the Phantom "lives" (he actually lives in the catacombs beneath the theatre) and how he becomes a sort of angel to Christine, one of the girls in the chorus. She gets noticed because of the Phantom and the Phantom secretly loves her. To complicate matters further, Christine runs into an old friend of hers (Raoul) and falls in love with him, setting up a complicated love triangle. It's an excellent musical -- scary in some parts, sad in others. But the point is it's a musical. Unlike an opera, the actors actually speak their lines during part of the performance -- in opera, all dialogue is sung.

There was a day when you'd get dressed up in your finest clothes to go to the theater. Those days are gone. You can wear sweats, grubby clothes, whatever. But my advice is to make it a special occasion. Wear a nice dress, and your hubbie should wear a suit and tie.

It depends if you're going for a matinee or evening performance. Matinee is slightly less formal, but theatre going in the evening is meant to be a dressy affair!

It's not opera, but broadway. It's definitely a dress up occasion. It's basically a love story, an unusual love story like The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The play is AMAZING! I saw it this summer. However, I'll let you figure out what it is about yourself. That's the whole idea. However, the singing is great! Especially "Christie"-one of the characters. The high notes she hits are amazing! Depends on which showing you are going to. But to be on the safe side, where a nice skirt and top, or where a small dress-but not a fancy one! You don't want to be overdressed! Also, where comfy clothes because you will be probably walking to get to the theater, and it really hurts your toes. And also, wear a jacket, it gets chilly after a evening showing.

Sounds good, there is a feed on my Yahoo 360 page, from Lord Andrew Lloyd Weber, web page, I would try there. Think everything he has done musically has been a wonderful success, his group sent me his gold DVD with his music and video, mum watches it all the time. It really is spectacular.

I mention the opera in my Novel entitles Rossetti, but that is another story, another opera, from another time.

Phantom of the Opera is about a young soprano being taught by The Angel of Music in her dressing room. Then her childhood sweetheart comes back leaving the Angel in jealously. The fight over the soprano turns deadly and within the opera much more happens then singing.

You should wear an elegant formal wear. Mostly black and probably just a simple black dress. Be ready to sit for about an hour and 15 minutes before intermission. The show itself is close to 3 hours and make sure you've eaten before.

I went myself in June and it was amazing. Definitely an amazing play and make sure to write all about it back here.
