Get some private lessons! Your teacher will know how to prepare you for performances

Knowing how to read music would be a great start, that and the time honored tradition of "practice". How do you think Kenny G got to be as good as he is... :)

Yea just practice a hour a day at least.

And just don't blow through the music you know, go through the tougher parts untill you shed them.

Remember, practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.

um well practice is basically it go back and work on small sections that trouble you i'm sure you'll do fine

Get a teacher, get a teacher, get a teacher. Why do you not have one already? 20 minutes is a good start at practicing, but that is usually the time I use to warm up and work on scales. Congrats on making honor band, but if you want to be really good, go get a teacher that can help you break all the bad habits you have (if you are self taught, you have many bad habits, the two just go together) and teach you proper playing techniques, and to push you ahead of the level of music that you learn in school, which is not a very high level (even at high school, music is still at a middle school level, which is just barely above beginner level musicianship).

Your question isn't specific enough- it's like saying "I have to cook- how do I do it"?

Do you want tips on how to sit, breathe, what music to play, or how to dress or wear your hair? If you can give a better question you might get more help.
