Position:Home>Performing Arts> Taming of the Shrew?

Question:Just out of curiousity, if you were to rewrite Shakespere's Taming of the Shrew in a different time period, which time period would you choose and why?

I'd choose the future...I'd like to see how they talk. I'd also like to see how their personalities, clothing, and environment are different. :D

I would choose the present because right now, women are not really demanded to be obedient. And many of the other social values have changed. So, we would see the differences personally and though they might not look like much, they might add up so that the play doesn't even exist (because no one tames an unobedient woman now). Also, in the future, women might be asked to be obedient again and so... u never know if the play would change much.

I'd set it in Victorian England, because that was another period when women were expected to be demure and biddable.

Actually, there have been quite a few productions of Shakespeare that have been translated into different time periods. There was a rather famous production of Shrew that was done in Italian commedia dell'arte style.
