Position:Home>Performing Arts> Should I learn to play violin?

Question:I have a feeling that I could really be able to play it and enjoy it. I've played the flute for six years and know how to read music. I'm sixteen and I can be dedicated.

Is it difficult? Do you suggest it? Tips or adive? How much are nice beginner violins?

honestly I don't like string instruments but thats may own personal opinion. I prefer wind, piano, and percussion.

but the violin I guess is ok, all my friends that played it quit, and they were all good, they just got bored of it.

But I guess maybe for college they would take scholarships for violin. maybe I have no idea.

If you were looking for a challenge in a instrument, try bassoon, thats one of the main instruments you would to get into college with. That and the bassoon is rare in most bands, and it has a really cool sound. =D Though it is rather difficult, but once you get into what you do, its not that difficult, only progressing and the commitment to the insturment.

I play flute, sax and bassoon. So I have alot of commitment to my instruments.

Sorry if I got off topic about the violin.

It is as challenging as any other instrument, but totally doable.

I would suggest a Samuel Eastman 80. It's a student model violin--should run around $500. Usually cheap violins are not well made and very difficult to play--I would NOT buy something online (and if it costs less than $300--be leary--you do get what you pay for!)

There is actually a shortage of string players (since many high schools don't have orchestras but most all have bands!) and most any college will give incoming students scholarship money--not even to necessarily major in music.

As I said in my other reply, I play both flute and violin....if you have any quesitons, e-mail me!

Good luck

I say go for it if you like classical music.

It sounds like you want to learn it, so go ahead and do it. You'll never regret knowing how to play an instrument. Go for it.

Yes go for it!
Violin is kinda hard to learn at first, the rewards are amazing
Beginner violins are not really expensive, but shop at a pawn shop.. you may get a real deal. Go with someone who is experienced in violin, you don't wanna wind up with something you may regret later. GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!

I think that the violin is a beautiful instrument. Not many people play it anymore.

It would be a wonderful item for you to learn.

I am sure, as with many things, it will be difficult, but you did say you were dedicated. I think the reward would be worth it.

I know of some places where violins can start as little as $50.00, and up. You can also try your school's music department, they can get awesome deals that you can even make payments on.

I would suggest that first before you spend any real money. Try it out, a loaner or something, just to make sure that it will be something that you could really get into.

Good luck!
