How to sing with an accent?

Question:im trying out for the musical Annie Get Your Gun and I need to sing for my audition You Cant Get a Man With a gun--but the twist is ive gotta sing it with a texas/southern kind of accent- any tips? thanks

The melody's rhythm is actually very close to speech, so just work on the lyric as if it's a monologue. Employ the Texas dialect, and then just add the melody's pitches back in.

It's a character song, so you want to really throw yourself into the song -- act it, and give it a lot of vividness and energy and fun.
