"Best" is a pretty relative term, and opinions would very considerably depending on who you asked. I'm not sure how much you're planning to spend on your guitar, but most of the better brands--Gibson, Martin, and Taylor are all up there--aren't cheap.

If you're looking for a good starter, I would look for a Seagull. They're handmade in Quebec (not made in a Chinese factory), and are excellent instruments. Great quality, great sound. I know that Guitar Center carries them, and I know that Music-Go-Round is big on Seagulls too. If you're looking to get a better bang for your buck, I would recommend buying something used from a Music-Go-Round. Used acoustic guitars will sometimes sound better than new ones, because the more a guitar gets played, the more the wood ages and the better it sounds.

Hope that helped! Good luck on finding your perfect guitar.

The "best" is debatable, but, both Takamini and Gibson are fantastic brands you're sure to be happy with.

A great starter guitar would be an Alvarez. For a cheap price, you get a nice sound with relatively easy action.

Martin.

cali is a big state. I dont think weed has a music store, however the SF bay area has hundreds, never buy a musical instrument sight unseen, kind of a rule among musicians, found a used piece o crap Ibanez at a shop in Napa one of my favorite axes,go figure!

Top acoustic guitar brands are:

1. Ibanez ( because they have very cool colors/decent prices)
2.Yamaha

The stores you want are :

Guitar Center stores
Sam Ash stores

They both have a store in Cerritos, Ca.
You can find the exact store locations on their websites.

www.guitarcenter.com
www.samash.com

Good luck

A lot depends on what you're looking for. An electric guitar? Acoustic? And if acoustic, classical? Steel-stringed? Within each category, there are partisans of many different brands. Of course, there's also the issue of how much you want to pay.

Among electrics, the two biggest brands are Fender and Gibson. Fender makes the famed Stratocaster, which has three pickups and a sharp, stinging sound (it's often considered an excellent "lead" instrument) as well as the Telecaster (which has two pickups and a "twangier" sound), as well as various other models. Gibson's most famous model is the Les Paul, which has two pickups, of a different type from the Fenders, that give it a big "fat" sound, with more low end than either a Strat or a Telecaster. The necks also differ between the models.

Among steel-string acoustics, I have also been partial to the "big" sound of Martin guitars, which tend to have a fullness about them. Yamaha makes some excellent models as well.

On the classical front, I'd have to refer you elsewhere, because I haven't really played nylon-stringed guitars with any regularity in a while.

As for me personally, my primary guitars are (electric) a Les Paul, and (acoustic, with electric pickup) a Martin DC1E.

The best thing to do? Go to a good guitar shop and try them out, see how they feel in your hand, and how they sound to your ear.
