Does anyone know about the musical Bye Bye Birdie?

Question:My highschool is going to preform this in March and auditions are coming up. I don't know much about this musical, or about the parts. If you have ever preformed in this show or really now about it, I would love your input. From what I've heard/seen on youtube, it looks totally stupid. Let me know whta you think about this musical?

The lead is a 17 year old girl who plays a sort of groupie fan

Other female roles include her mother, a small part, the girl with the idea who is in her 30s and girl friend to the songwrtier. There are a few older women.

There are lots of teenies with no lines who just faint a lot.

Then their are guy roles.

The concept was a take off paroday on Elvis going into the army.

This hot kid singer, who has to go into the army so they have him sing a song on tv to a girl (the 17 year old) and give her a token kiss (for all the girls in the world).

It's a story about how if anything can go wrong it does.

Rigth up to the 17 year old girls boy friend punching the lights out of Elvis live one TV!

Someone who makes five errors in grammar and spelling, and can't hit spell check thinks this is a stupid musical???? Hmmm......
Why don't you rent it, and see for yourself, instead of pooling your ignorance with others? If you are watching youtube on a regular basis, your senses have been dulled anyway. So it's not the greatest musical ever....if you don't like it, no one will force you to participate. Ann Margret and Dick Van Dyke did ok with it. Why not have an open mind? Maybe that's too much to ask.

i hate the musical because it's so boring and they have the most ridiculous songs that ALWAYS get stuck in my head for DAYS at a time

It is a musical comedy sendup based on Elvis Presley's being drafted into the army. It is a bit dated now, but it has good dance numbers, lots of good roles, and will be fun to do. The Elvis chacter is Conrad Birdie, hense the name of the show. He is to give a girl from his fan club a good bye kiss and sing a would be hit song, 'One Last Kiss'. It is really a throw back to the sixties. Relax and enjoy the ride.

It's got some great classic songs and high energy dance numbers. It's old-fashioned in the best way.
