Your best bet would be to stick to the more familiar, and easily accesible brands, incase you need to have any work done. Try your local music store, and ask for acoustic guitars made by Alvarez, Washburn, Takamine, and even Dean. You'll want to choose playability over looks, as hard as that may be, because this guitar will be the one that you compare others too when it comes time to spend more money (and belive me-it will). After you buy the guitar, be sure to bring it to a luthier to have it set up. This is crucial, because it can make an average guitar great, and it will ensure a long life with minimal problems for your guitar. Also, try not to buy used, because it takes a skilled professional to purchase a great used instrument, and you are more likely to run into problems. Good luck and I hope you find the guitar of your dreams out there.

tell us a price range.
u want acoustic or aocustic electric?
u want a cutaway or not. alvarez, takamine and fender r good some ibanez is good

The best advice that I can give you is to go somewhere like the Guitar Center or Sam Ash and just play their instruments...everyone likes a certain feel and action, ( try to learn at least one chord...so that you can see the difference in the action of the strings....you don't want them to high or to low )....and it's up to the individual to make that decision...there are so many to choose from today....but you could have five of a certain brand in a certain price range and they will all sound and feel a little different....so go and play one and make the decision yourself....just tell the clerk your price range and ask him to tell you what brand is the best in that range and then go play and make up your own mind....if you can play at all take someone with you who can so that you can hear the way they sound...if you don't know anyone then ask the clerk to play it...most of them can play....good luck...Some decent brands are, Gibson, Yamaha, Fender, Taylor, Martin etc....bye !!!!!!! Try out the new acoustic Yamaha's, they have some nice guitars for beginners, at the $200.00 price range !!!!!!!
