Position:Home>Performing Arts> What's a good acoustic guitar for a beginner?

Question:It's been quite the goal of mine to get the money for an acoustic guitar for awhile now. I didn't work in high school and now that I'm in my first semester of college I have made enough money to get one. However, now that I can afford it I realized I really have no clue what to look for in a guitar that will help me choose a good one.

To be honest, money isn't an issue when selecting. I plan on sticking with the guitar for a long time to come so I am willing to put out more than some reluctant beginners might. I always had the mindset that buying a more expensive guitar would cause you to want to learn and not let it go to waste sitting in the corner. Other than telling you that price isn't an issue, I should probably mention that I have arthritis which makes it hard to reach some chords on guitars I've messed around on. I'm not sure if acoustics come with different width neck sizes, but if they do it'd be great to find one with a smaller neck width.

Looking forward to hearing back.

Look on musicians friend. GREAT site. I've made about 20-30 orders from them. A good beginner series is the yamaha F series but there are cheaper ones. Even if you're willing to pay more for a better guitar right now because you know you will be dedicated to practicing, I would still get a cheaper one first. That way, when you are more experienced later on you can pick out a guitar you truly like instead of just buying what other people tell you is good. I'd recommend yamaha, that's what I have. read the reviews on musiciansfriend.com good luck

fender! gibson!

You want them to be somewhat compact and I say this for a reason. When learning guitar it is very hard getting used to going up and down the frets and being able to reach all the strings. If you have a guitar where the frets are smaller and the strings are closer, I would think it would be way easier to learn.

ok well itall depends on how big or small you are. they make different size of guitars and you need to get one that will be easy to hold, also you have to get certain strings im not sure what they're called but im sure you can ask the person that sells guitars. if your a beginner you need to get strings that arent to far up from the frets. heres osme more advice incasew you wanted to know. its gonna hurt your fingers for about a week so you need to practice the guitar at least 30 minutes everyday for them not to hurt, it'll cut your fingers but you need to make sure its cutting your fingers in the right place. :D. good luck.

will you answer my question?
its really easy.
i just need your opinion on something.
muchos gracias!

Go around awhile to different shops that sell good guitars and take your time playing on as many as you can untill u find the right one. The more expensive ones are generally also the better ones, and how long it will last is up to your care of it. If money is really no object u can get guitars that runs into tens of thousands of dollars, but you wont see those in shops. Only to dream about for us normal people

well, i have an Ibanez v. it plays really well and its not very expensive at all. only like, $300. but if you want to get a really nice acoustic, get either a Martin or a Taylor. John Frusciante of the Chili Peppers always uses a Martin 00-15. Good luck! and dont stop playing!!!!

A Fender DG-7 is the perfect choice in my opinion. Or really any Fender acoustic under $500 will due a splendid job and play great.
