How bout I help you narrow your search?

Ask yourself what style you might like to sing. Do you prefer opera, gospel, blues, or folk? Modern or classic? Are you interested in the subject matter of a song, or something that will test or demonstrate your vocal flair?

Things to keep in mind.

lol, you should be telling ME what songs to sing opera person....

"Over the hill and far away".

Old McDonald...

Listen to Andrea Boccelli for ideas. He sings well with several females on his CDs, or Sara Brightman.

i doubt you are because you not even can spell it correct.

it's Mezzo Soprano

an excellent song for a mezzo soprano is "Ombra mai fu" by G.F. H?ndel.

or "Habanera" from Bizet's Carmen

I'm not sure what tupe of music you're looking for. By the way, its MEZZO soprano but here's some stuff:

Quia Rexpexit from Magnificat - Johan Sabastian Bach
(that song is so beautiful to me)

Il mio bel foco or Se tu mai me(can't remember the exact name) both of these are in the book of 24 Italian Arias. If you don't have that book you need to get it. Its a book everyone should have.

Beau Soir by Claude Debussy; another beautiful song but I must warn you that its not easy. You're gonna have to work on french diction. Song is for an alto but I like it.

Another french song is L'amour de moi. Very easy song. Again a little diction stuff but its not hard at all.

Cruifixus and Agnus Dei by Gioachino Rossini

Also find you a jazz book with songs like Misty, My funny Valentine and Lover Man or maybe even something more contempoary. Good luck to you

it sounds like you might be a beginner singer. If you identify yourself as a mezzo, then it sounds like you want to sing classically (the style that leads up to opera).
For my beginning students I let them choose between two books: "First book of mezzo soprano solos" or "26 italian art songs and arias." (links below to purchase at amazon)
these song books can be purchased with accompaniment CDs so that you can practice without a pianist. there are pros and cons with both books

http://www.amazon.com/First-Book-Mezzo-S...
http://www.amazon.com/26-Italian-Songs-A...

for "first book of mezzo solos:"
pro: songs come in several languages, german, italian, spanish and english so there's a wide variety of choices.
cons: some of the songs are kind of old fashioned and sentimental (not in a good way) and the edition is a little hard to read.

for the italian book
pro: these songs are CLASSICS! every classically trained singer starts with this book and knows at least 4 or 5 by heart. some of my favorites are still in this book! they are simple, beautifully written and sassy, cute and fun! This book also comes with a pronunciation guide for the words...
con: they are all in italian. as a singer, I can't tell you how ANNOYING it is to hear BADLY PRONOUNCED ITALIAN! please if you choose to get this book, get someone to help you read the pronunciation guide. the pronunciation guide is written in the international phonetic alphabet (IPA).
this web site gives you a rough guide to the symbols and corresponding sounds:

You might also want to try folk songs like "look away over yondro'" and "I wonder as I wander" you could also try some beginning english art song. "the daisies" is a beautiful song by samuel barber that is deceptively difficult, but not too challenging vocally. You could also try some broadway songs like "I cain't say no!" from oklahoma and "you'll never walk alone" from carousel. both these musicals are by Rogers and Hammerstein.
there are some arias (songs from operas) that you could sing as a beginning mezzo... "verdrai carino" is from Don Giovanni by Mozart and would be a great choice because it doesn't go too high or too low.

the Habanera and Ombra mai fu are two arias for mezzo, but they are quite advanced vocally. I wouldn't recommend them because you'll probably just get frustrated.

so here are a bunch of choices for you and two books. If you want, you can e mail me and tell me where you're located... I might be able to find a voice teacher for you.

good luck!
