Learning Drums?

Question:I want to learn to play the drums, any tips? What's the best way? Lessons, books, dvds? I have a full drumset I have never used. I know like 2 beats.

You need a teacher to get you started. Once you learn the basics and know how to read pick up some instructional DVDs that teach a style you are interested in. It may be hard to find a teacher that will teach you to play the entire kit. You really need to learn proper stick control by playing a snare only at first. Once you have been working with a teacher and are starting to get pretty good try to find some people to play with just for fun. Remember, drums are not a lead instrument. You need to learn how to play with others to be a good drummer. I know guys that can do a great drum solo, but if you put them with other musicians they suck. Their meter is horrible and they try to play over top of everyone else. A good drummer tries to make the band sound good, not just himself/herself.

go on the internet and figure out how to read DRUM TABS, if you learn to do that then you can search pretty much any song you want and learn to play it.

I disagree. If you want to be a musician, learn how to read music, not just tabs. I recommend getting a teacher.
