Question:hi. i have an older friend who is need of conducting help. You see he needs to identify which musical insturments are good for playing certain music (i.e. when to play in a song, type to play (fast or slow), how they should play in a song, etc.) if you have any ideas concerning how to conduct music please help me out so i can in turn help him out.

If your wondering what instruments i'm pertaining to i am talking about wind instruments.

so far we have

- 2 saxophones(thats including me)
- 2 clarinet
- 2 flutes
- 2 trumpets

again if you have some conducting backgrounds please help me out by giving some opinions on how these instruments should be played in any songs.

seems that you have a little problem.... i can't help you since i dont know about conducting but you can tell your friend that in order to learn better about these instruments and how they should be played tell him to listen specifically to each kind of instruments (i.e. saxophone is with jazz mostly and so is with trumpets, and clarinet can be with jazz but it can also be with orchestra and flute is mostly with orchestra, etc.) i hope this helps

Your question is not about conducting. It's actually about orchestration.

And it would take far too long to answer your question here. Orchestration is a very wide-ranging art form, with nearly limitless possibilities for instrument combinations and color effects.

Have your friend get a copy of Berlioz's "Treatise on Orchestration." Piston's book is also good, but the Berlioz is kind of the bible of orchestration.
