Position:Home>Performing Arts> I CAN'T SING!?!?! Does this really matter?

Question:I'm a teen, and am working to get into an acting career, and along with being a good actress (and I keep trying to improve by taking tons of classes) and am a dancer, and have been for 8 years... but I can't sing!!!! It seems like a bunch of teenage actresses are singers, but I have a very low voice (tenner) for a girl, and can't hit high notes. Do you think I can still have a good career in show-biz even though I can't sing?

There are a lot of excellent actors/actresses who don't sing. Besides, sometimes you hear some actresses and think: "please, better don't sing". You can be a great actress without singing.

However, unless you don't like it, you can prepare yourself for singing. You only need to work with your vocal folds through specific exercises, vocalization and breathing lessons to get a good voice and a wider extension of notes. All people can sing and have an attractive voice independently if it has a soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto or tenor note's extension. Please, read this page with free contents (there is a lot of information on Internet):

Regards,

that's not a problem there are lots of actors and actresses that can't sing.

Just play a pedestrian in the background

lol

That doesn't mean you can't sing, it just means that you have to find songs in your particular range. Never limit yourself if you don't have to. Listen to artists like Toni Tennille and Brenda Russell. They have nice rich voices and sing superbly. Remember, it isn't about how high you can sing, but how well!

Just because you have a low voice for a girl (tenor) doesn't mean you can't sing! Ask you parents or grandparents if they have heard of Helen Shapiro. She was a pop singer in the Sixties, she was about 13 and she had a very low voice for a girl. You have to pitch your songs in the right key for your voice. High notes aren't everything. You have an unusual voice and that will make you stand out from the crowd. Follow your dream honey. Hope this helps.

having a low voice isn't a hangup...you may have a cool sound despite that. Are you being your worst critic? Keep up your dreams and studies...don't quit singing!

not a prob. if you do sing and you feel uncomfortable then have them alter your voice, most celebs do that.

You don't have to sing to become an actress....they usually dub over the actors/actresses voice anyway !!!!!! They won't care if your a TENOR !!!!! If your a good actress that's all that matters, good luck !!!!!!

No, it doesnt change your great personallity. I am super good at singing. I have won the talent show twice. I rock but it doesnt change me. I like my friends even if they cant sing
